Welcome

Thanks for stopping by...

Hi – I’m Cathrine, welcome to my garden journal.

Although trained as an environmental engineer, I’ve been an enthusiastic, mainly self-taught, backyard gardener for more than 25 years.  I’m constantly curious about all things garden related – reading, studying, and attempting all kinds of “horticultural experiments and adventures”.

I garden in the suburbs of Philadelphia in horticultural zone 7A.  I grow a bit of everything -  perennials but also trees, shrubs and some annuals.  I adore perennials. If I could I would have one of each (well, actually 3 to 5 of each because I like nice, big, juicy clumps of perennial goodness).  Alas – there is only so much space, time and money so I have to work hard to contain myself.

I also love vegetable gardening and have quite a large one.  I garden organically and I am "this close" to a no-till garden.  I like to start my vegetables from seed and always start way too many (those seed catalogues are dangerous things – sneaking up on wistful gardeners during the dark days of January).

My hope for this site is to share my gardening hopes, dreams, adventures and experiments – the victories and the tragedies.

If I can help someone else garden more successfully, I’m thrilled to do it.  We mud-loving types need to stick together.
